PRODUCT EVALUATION: 2008 THOR PHASE GEAR

(1/25/2008)
OH, THAT’S COMFORTABLE!

Aside from teal, the Phase gear also comes in colors of blue, blue/yellow (waffle) and black and tan (assault).

Not too long ago, we were presented with a brand new set of 2008 Thor Phase gear. Just to let you know, Thor MX is one of the most well known manufacturers for riding protection on the planet. Not just a thread company, Thor offers everything from kneepads and chest protectors to helmets and goggles for men, women and children.
This new Thor riding gear made quite the impression on our test riders. The gear looked great, was lightweight and ultra comfortable. However, was it going to stand up to the rigorous Dirt Wheels testing sessions? Read on.

THOR PHASE PANTS
The 2008 Thor Phase pant is constructed of a double and triple stitched 4820 Nylon and features an adjustable waist closure, Spandura stretch panels, Aramid fiber inner knee panel and padded ballistic knee panels.
The pants have a very comfortable feel to them. Thor really hit the nail on the head as far as the fit. Our size 34 pants felt good from the waist down. They had plenty of room for kneepads or braces without out being overly baggy. The Spandura panels worked great for rider mobility and had a good amount of venting. The pants went through numerous test sessions and wash cycles and pulled through looking as good as new. We were impressed with the Phase pants.
The pants retail for $89.95 and are available in sizes 28 to 38 in color combinations of teal, black, waffle, assault, blue/white and red/black. All styles are also available in youth sizes.

(Left) Thor’s Phase gear is one of the most comfortable sets we have tested this year. All together it is under 200 bucks, and it looks awesome! (Right) The Thor Phase gloves retail for only $21.95. They match the gear perfectly, have a nice snug fit, and have a good amount of ventilation.

THOR PHASE JERSEY
The chassis construction features Thor’s “Ride-Lite” fabric throughout for a performance feel and fit. You can really tell this jersey was designed and tested with racers in mind. You can hardly feel it while you are riding. It has a 100 percent polyester construction that features a small micromesh pattern. This pattern increased air circulation around the body and reduced “jersey sticking” due to perspiration. The jersey features durable overlock seams, no-bind Raglan style sleeves, a crew collar, sublimated no-fade graphics and lightly padded elbows.
The jersey retails for $29.95 and is available in sizes small to 3XL in the same color combinations as the pants (teal, black, waffle, assault, blue/white and red/black). All styles are also available in youth sizes.

THOR PHASE GLOVES
The 2008 Phase glove offers a great amount of coverage and flexibility. The fit is spot-on and the Liteprene cuff is proportioned just right to ensure a secure fit ride after ride. The gloves feature a hook-and-loop wrist closure system, a dimple-mesh chassis with airprene thumb, finger direct-inject patches, a genuine Clarino palm with light padding and perforated finger panels.
The Phase gloves feel great! They slip right on, but are just snug enough  to not move around while riding. They feature plenty of padding in all the right areas, and have a lot of grip for the controls.
The finger patches did a great job of deflecting roost and the perforations gave the gloves a cool airflow. The silicone grip on the fingertips worked well for the control levers, but they could have used a bit more.
The gloves retail for $21.95 and are available in sizes extra small to XXL in matching color combinations of teal, black, waffle, assault, blue/white and red/black. All styles are also available in youth sizes.

BUY IT?
Thor’s Phase riding gear is worth the price at just under 150 bucks for a complete set.  There is a reason Thor’s name is among the best in the business. The Phase gear is made for durability, yet offers a really cool style and design. From the moment you put it on, you realize what you have been missing out on. Not just durable, the Phase gear is lightweight and very comfortable. The 100 percent polyester jersey feels great on your skin, and its no-stick design is awesome for when the perspiration kicks in. The pants fit great over kneepads and braces, without a tight or baggy feel to them. The gloves are very good as well. We give a nod of the Dirt Wheel cap to Thor for their 2008 Phase gear.
