ATV World Yamaha Race Report: Mitchell Takes Top Position at British Championship
Basking in 25 degree sunshine, Desert Martin in Northern Ireland hosted the fourth round of the CCM British MMX Quad Championships this weekend. Team ATV World Yamaha were determined to get John Mitchell back to the top of the leader board, having just returned from a successful first round in the European championships.
Qualifying saw John take first place. Paul Holmes also did well on his first outing on a quad at the Desert Martin track and took tenth. In race one, John was in fourth after the first lap before applying the pressure and powering up to second place. Paul Holmes was riding well and made some awesome passes to finish in seventh.
In race two, it was Paul Holmes who took the holeshot and led the race until John passed and imposed an impressive lead, finishing 30 seconds in front of second placed Paul Winrow. Paul Holmes meanwhile finished a terrific sixth and fifth overall on the day.
John said afterwards “The ATV World Yamaha YFZ450 Laeger’s was superb all weekend. The track as great and was well graded throughout, giving me plenty of passing options where needed.”
John now leads the championship and is also aiming to increase his lead in the IOPD British Pro Class Quad-X Championship, which takes place at Armthrope, Yorkshire on 17th June. Paul Holmes will also be looking for a strong result as he is currently in second place. Hope to see you there!
