Frenchman Jeremie Warnia took the WORCS Pro ATV championship after a season-long battle with his Motoworks Can-Am teammate Josh Frederick. It all came down to the final round at Speedworld in Arizona. The two were tied in points, and they were the only two with a mathematical chance of taking the title. Each of them only had to worry about the other.
      The race itself was another matter. Four riders had visited the top of the winner’s podium this year, but so far it had eluded Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson. Despite being one of the favorites on the west coast and utterly dominating the Quad-X series, Nelson had a big goose egg in his WORCS win column. That situation ended at Speedworld. Nelson took the win after a hard fought battle with Warnia and MCR’s Beau Baron in the mud left by an early season Arizona storm. The three-way battle was reduced to a two-way battle when Baron’s motor blew up. He was actually towed in by his team manager Mike Cafro, who was also entered in the race. ATV historians might recall that the same scenario played itself out in the last round of the 2009 season, but in that instance Baron had enough points to win the title.
      As for Frederick, he was just out of touch of the battle between Nelson and Warnia for most of the race and finished third. Josh is a seasoned desert rider, so the final round might well have played in his favor if not for the mud. In the end, Nelson’s victory gave him the win that had been so elusive all year.
