(3) BIG AIR MX Newaygo, Michigan Big Air features about one and a half mile long track made up of a combination of hard pack and sandy loam that offers the riders lots of jumps, both natural and Supercross style jumps as well, “Little Air” separate peewee track. (14) BEAVER CREEK TRAIL Houghton Lake, Michigan North of Houghton Lake, the Beaver Creek Trail is a 36-mile route that connects with the West Higgins Trail. Directions: Go north on US 27 for seven miles. Exit and go west on CR 104. Look for parking one mile from US 27. Contact: (517) 569-9999.
(15) ROSE CITY TRAIL St. Helen, Michigan North east of St Helen, the Rose City Trail is a series of connecting loops totaling 15 miles. Directions: To reach the Ambrose Lake Trailhead from St. Helen, go north on St. Helen Road for 2.5 miles. Turn right on Rose City Road (CR F28) and go ten miles. Take a right on CR F7 (Fairview Road) and travel one mile. Turn right on CR 28 (Houghton Creek Road) and go one mile. Take a left on Piper Lake Road and look for parking on the left. (16) WEST HIGGINS TRAIL Houghton, Michigan North of Houghton, the West Higgins Trail is a scenic 59-mile route with long hill climbs and some quick rolls. (17) DEVILS LAKE ROUTE Alpena, Michigan South of Alpena, the Devils Lake route is a ten-mile route open to ATV and dirt bike riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 32 and US 23 in Alpena, go south on US 23 for two miles. Veer right onto Werth Road and go one mile. (18) AMBROSE LAKE TRAIL Grayling, Michigan (Au Sable State Forest) Southeast of Grayling, the Ambrose Lake Trail is a nine-mile loop open to ATV riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of Main and SR 33 in Rose City, head west on Main (which turns into W. Rose City Road) for 5.5 miles. Go south on CR F7 (N. (19) BARAGA PLAINS ATV TRAIL Baraga Township, Michigan In Baraga County south of Baraga Township, Baraga Plains ORV Trail is a 28-mile route through state forests. (20) NORWAY TRAIL Dickinson County, Michigan Northeast of Norway in Dickinson County, the Norway Trail is a 23-mile loop open to both ATV riding and dirt biking. Directions: From in town at Norway head north on Main St. It ends at 16th Ave, take a right and travel 2.3 miles. 16th Ave. changes to Pine Creek Road (CR 573.) Go left (north) on Norway Truck Trl. (21) FLECH GRADE ROUTE Flech County, Michigan North of Iron Mountain, the Flech Grade route is a 38-mile route along an old railroad grade. It is shared by ATVs and motorcycles. It runs from Flech to a few miles east of Schaffer. Directions: To reach the Flech trailheads from Iron Mountain, go north on US 2. Go to SR 95 and go north on SR 95. Travel for 10.5 miles. (22) BILL NICHOLLS ATV ROUTE Houghton County, Michigan In Houghton County, the Bill Nicholls ORV Trail is a 37-mile route parallel to SR 26. It runs south from Atlanta Mine. Directions: From in town at Norway head north on Main St. It ends at 16th Ave, take a right and travel 2.3 miles. 16th Ave changes to Pine Creek Road (CR 573.) Go left (north) on Norway Truck Trail. (23) OLD STATE HOUSE TRAIL Iosco County, Michigan The Old State House Trail is a 17-mile route open to both ATV and dirt bike riding. (24) LEETSVILLE TRAIL Kalkaska County, Michigan Northeast of Kalkaska in Kalkaska County, the Leetsville Trail is a 25-mile network open to both ATV riding and dirt biking. (26) FOREST ISLANDS TRAIL Menominee County, Michigan Southwest of Escanaba in Menominee and Delta Counties, the Forest Islands Trail is a 33-mile trail system open to both ATV and dirt biking. (27) LEOTA TRAIL Missaukee County, Michigan Northeast of Leota in Missaukee and Rosscommon counties, the Leota Trail is 55-mile network of loops open to both ATV riding and dirt biking. (28) CEDAR CREEK ATV TRAIL Muskegon County, Michigan East of Twin Lake in Muskegon County, the Cedar Creek ORV trail is a 24-mile route divided into a north and south loop. (29) OGEMAW HILLS TRAILS Ogemaw County, Michigan The Ogemaw Hills Trails are two loops open to both ATV and dirt bike riding. One loop is five miles and the other is 11 miles. (30) IRON RIVER/MARENISCO ROUTE Ottowa National Forest, Michigan On the Upper Peninsula, the Iron River—Marenisco Route is a 67-mile route open to ATV riding. Directions: The trailhead is in the town of Marenisco. Park at the intersection of Pine ave and SR 64. Contact: (906) 932-1330.
(31) GEELS TRAIL Roscommon County, Michigan Southeast of Roscommon, the Geels Trail System is open to ATV and dirt bike riding. The trail system consists of Geels north and Geels south. The Geels North is a 22-mile route through mature forest with sandy trails. The Geels south is a 28-mile route through mature hardwood forest on sandy double track. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 76 and St. Helen Road in St. Helen, go northwest on SR 76 for five miles to the town of Geels. (32) ST HELEN ORV ROUTE St. Helens, Michigan East of St. Helen, the St. Helen ORV Route is a trail system consisting of numerous loops totaling 30 miles. There is also a two square mile open play area. There are some minor hill climbs and scrambles. Directions: To reach the parking at the Motorsport Area from St. Helen, goes east on Beaver Lake Road for two miles. Turn right on Meridian Road Look for parking on the right after about 0.5 miles. (33) CHEBOYGAN COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Cheboygan, Michigan BLACK LAKE ATV TRAIL Southeast of Cheboygan, the Black Lake ORV Trail is a 38-mile route. BUMMERS ROOST ATV TRAIL In Cheboygan County, the Bummers Roost ORV Trail is a 21-mile route on the east shores of Black Lake. CRANBERRY LAKE TRAIL Northeast of St. Ignace, the Cranberry Lake Trail is a eight-mile route open to ATV and dirt bike riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from St. Ignace, go north on I-75 for 14 miles. Go east on SR 134 and travel 31.5 miles. Turn left on SR 48 and go 0.3 miles to parking. Contact: (906) 293-5131.
(34) CRAWFORD COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Crawford, Michigan FREDERIC LOOP TRAIL West of Frederic in Crawford County, the Frederic Loop Trail is a 29-mile network of trails open to both ATV riding and dirt biking. KALKASKA TRAILS SOUTH Southeast of Mancelona, the Kalkaska Trail system consists of 90 miles of trails open to both ATV riding and dirt biking. Directions: To reach the trailhead from Frederic, head west on CR612 for four miles. Turn left on Tower Trail Park on the left. To reach the trailhead from the intersection of US 131 and Maple St. in Marcelona, go south on Maple St. (CR 571) for 3.7 miles. Turn left (east) on Starvation Lake Road. (35) MOUNDS OFF-ROAD VEHICLE AREA Flint, Michigan (Genesee County) Near Flint in Genesee County, the Mounds ORV Park has trails open to OHV users. ATVs, dirt bikes and 4WD vehicles share these routes. Open year-round, but from March 15-May 15 no trucks are allowed and motorcycles and ATVs are restricted to the eight-acre scramble area only. (36) GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY TRAIL SYTEM Grayling, Michigan FIFE LAKE In Grand Traverse County, there is are several connecting loops north and south of Fife Lake that are open to ATV riding. The total system mileage is 66 miles. NORTH MISSAUKEE TRAIL Southwest of Grayling, the North Missaukee Trail is a 73-mile route open to both ATV and dirt bike riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of US 131 and E County Line Road (Grand-Kal rrd) in Fife Lake, head north on E County Line Road Travel 2.75 miles to where Supply Road (CR 660) veers left. Travel on Supply Road for four miles to parking on the left. To reach the trailhead from Grayling, go south on I-75 for 4.4 miles to the US 27 exit. Go south on US 27 for 11.5 miles. (37) HIAWATHA NATIONAL FOREST Munising/Shingleton, Michigan COAL WOOD TRAIL South of Shingleton, the Coal Wood Trail is a 14-mile route along an old railroad grade through northern hardwood and red pine stands. The route is marked and easy to follow. It runs between Hwy. M-94 east and Hwy. M-94 west. Directions: Located just south of Shingleton, a sign marks the eastern trailhead on the west side of M-94. There is no parking at the trailhead, but spaces may be available at or near one of the business on M-28 in Shingleton. GRAND ISLAND NATIONAL RECREATION AREA North of Munising on the Upper Peninsula, the Grand Island National Recreation Area has miles of old forest roads and old carriage trails to explore. Grand Island stretches north for eight miles, from its south point at Williams Landing in Munising Bay to the north end at North Point. Only three miles across at its widest point, Grand lsland offers 35 miles of shoreline, encompassing over 13,500 acres of dense woodland. HAYWIRE TRAIL South of Shingleton, the Haywire Trail is a 33-mile route along an old railroad grade. The route begins on M-94 south of Shingleton and ends at the Water Intake Plant in Manistique. Directions: Located just south of Shingleton, a sign marks the northern trailhead on the east side of M-94. There is no parking at the trailhead, but spaces may be available at or near local businesses on M-28 in Shingleton, less than 1/3 mile north of the trailhead. Contact: (906) 387-3700.
(38) LAKE COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Lake County, Michigan LINCOLN HILLS TRAIL Near Luther in Lake County, the Lincoln Hills Trail is a 21-mile loop trail open to ATV and dirt bike riding. It is known as a good family ride. Directions: To reach the Lincoln Hills Trail trailhead from Baldwin, head north on SR37 for 15.5 miles to 9 Mile Road. Turn right on 9 Mile Road to the Lincoln Hills Trail trailhead. LITTLE MANISTEE TRAIL Near Luther in Lake County, the Little Manistee Trail is a sandy, 45-mile loop open to ATV and dirt bike riding. It can be linked to Lincoln Hills and Big/Little “O” Trails via Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail. Directions: To reach the trailhead from Luther, head north out of town on Old M 63, this will curve to the west and turn into 4 Mile Road. After approximately four miles, turn left (south) on Kings Hwy. The trailhead will be on the right, about 3/4 mile down the Road. TIN CUP SPRINGS TRAIL South of Luther in Lake County, the Tin Cup Springs Trail is a 20-mile loop open to ATV and dirt bike riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from Luther, head south on State Road. for about 6.5 mile. Take a right (west) on 24th street and then a right (north) on Kings Hwy. The trailhead will be on your right about one mile up the road. One good feature is that the Trail and Route run parallel to each other and you can change from one to the other at any road crossings. (39) MANISTEE NATIONAL FOREST Oscoda County, Michigan BULL GAP ATV TRAIL In Oscoda County, the Bull Gap ORV trail has 115 miles of routes open to ATV riding. There are several trails and a sand hill. HURON TRAIL Southwest of Oscoda, the Huron Trail is a 52-mile route open to ATV riding. This is a wide, smooth route with a few sandy spots. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of US 23 and West River Road in Oscoda, head west on West River Road (turns into East River Road) for 1.5 miles. Take a left (south) on Grass Road Go one-half mile to parking on the left. LITTLE O TRAIL Near Baldwin, the Little O Trail and the Big O Trail have a combined 139 miles open to ATV riding. These routes connect up with the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail (CCC Trail). Directions: To reach the trailhead from Baldwin, head north on SR37 for 9.5 miles to the trailhead parking on west side of road past Wolf Lake. MCCCT-WHITE CLOUD Northeast of White Cloud, the White Cloud section of the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail (CCC Trail) is open to ATV riding. There are about 20 miles of looping trails wide enough for ATVs. To reach the trailhead from White Cloud, head north on SR37 for 1.75 miles. Turn west on SR20 for four miles to the trailhead, which is on the north side of the road. MEADOWS TRAIL In Oscoda County, the Meadows Trail is a 76-mile route open to ATV riding. The route connects with the Bull Gap Trail. BIG O TRAIL Near Baldwin, the Little O Trail and the Big O Trail have a combined 139 miles open to ATV riding. These routes connect up with the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail (CCC Trail). Directions: To reach the trailhead from Baldwin, head north on SR37 for 9.5 miles to the trailhead parking on west side of road past Wolf Lake. MEADOWS TRAIL In Oscoda County, the Meadows Trail is a 76-mile route open to ATV riding. The route connects with the Bull Gap Trail. Contact: (989) 826-3252.
(40) LAKE SUPERIOR STATE FOREST Hessel, Michigan BAY CITY LAKE TRAIL On the Upper Peninsula north of Hessel, the Bay City Lake Trail is a nine-mile route open to ATV riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 134 and 3 Mile Road in Hessel, head north on 3 Mile Road Go 1.25 miles to Bay City Lake Road and turn left. Travel 1.75 miles, staying right at all junctions, to the parking area. HAYWIRE ATV TRAIL On the Upper Peninsula south of Shingleton, the Haywire Trail is a 33-mile route along an old railroad grade. (41) LUCE COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Luce County, Michigan DANAHER PLAINS TRAIL In Luce County, the Dahner Plains Trail is a 29-mile route open to ATV riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 28 and SR 77 in Seney, head north on SR 77. Travel 4.2 miles north to a right turn. Look for parking. PINE RIDGE TRAIL The Pine Ridge Trail is a 49-mile route open to both ATV and dirt bike riding. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 123 and CR 466 in Newberry, go north on SR 123 for five miles to Fourmile Corner. Turn left, going northwest on CR 407 (Deer Park Road) and travel for 17.6 miles. Turn left on Ohio Camp Road and look for parking on the left. SANDTOWN TRAIL South of Newberry in Luce County, the Sandtown Trail is a 36-mile loop open to ATV riding and off-road motorcycling. Directions: To reach the trailhead from Newberry, head south on SR 123 for 3.25 miles to a right (west) on SR 28. Travel three miles on SR 28 to a left (south) on SR 117. Go 4.5 miles to a right (west) on CR 447 (Old Curtis Road Line Road) Travel 1.8 miles to a left (south) on Hayes Road. Go about 1.5 miles to a parking area on the left. TWO-HEART TRAIL The Two Heart Trail is a 36-mile route open to both ATV and dirt bike riding. It connects with the Pine Ridge Trail. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 123 and CR 466 in Newberry, go north on SR 123 for five miles to Fourmile Corner. Turn left, going west north on CR 407 (Deer Park Road) and travel for 17.6 miles. Turn left on Ohio Camp Road and look for parking on the left. (42) MONTMORRENCY COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Montmorrency County, Michigan ATLANTA ATV TRAIL In Montmorrency County northeast of Atlanta, the Atlanta ORV Trail system has 82 miles of routes through state forest land. The system consists of a series of loops. BIG BEAR ATV TRAIL In Montmorrency County, the Big Bear ORV Trail is a 20-mile route open to ATV riding. There is a 15-mile loop and a five-mile connector trail to the Crapo Creek Trail and the north Branch route. Directions: To reach the trailhead from the intersection of SR 123 and CR 466 in Newberry, go north on SR 123 for five miles to Fourmile Corner. Turn left, going west north on CR 407 (Deer Park Road) and travel for 17.6 miles. Turn left on Ohio Camp Road and look for parking on the left. (43) OSTSEGO COUNTY TRAIL SYSTEM Ostsego County, Michigan CRAPO CREEK ATV TRAIL In Otsego County, the Crapo Creek ORV Trail is a 18-mile route open to ATV riding. It connects with the Big Bear Trail. NORTH BRANCH ATV ROUTE In Otsego County, the North Branch ATV Route is a 26-mile route open to ATV riding. It connects with the Crapo Creek Trail. Directions: To reach the trailhead from US75, use Exit 270. Turn west towards the town of Waters. Head north on Old US Hwy 27. Go to the town of Otsego Lake. From town head 7.2 miles east on CR F38 (Mancelona Road, than turns to Old State Road) Take a right onto Turtle Lake Road Look for parking on left after .1 mile. (44) SILVER LAKE ORV SITE Silver Lake, Michigan Northwest of Grand Rapids and west of Mears in Oceana County, the 3000-acre Silver Lake State Park has a 450-acre ORV area with sand dunes.
